The River
I burn a candle at both ends
And I have to hold it the whole time
My blood boils over into my hands,
Out of my eyes most of the time
These things come in waves onto the sand
We slept on the beach so we would know
I say a prayer after a while
You say a prayer I say, "the river"
Ageism
Young, I have sung, I’ve sung young
In glassy pools, us fools formed our figures
And lingered until the rose pink dawn hit us
And we stretched and fetched our shoes,
Our clothes and our glow throwing flutes
At you and the others who were growling,
Asking, beckoning, soliciting
The waves and the branches held the morning then
Between orange leaves and foaming breaths
Now we must be silent and have our sleep
And if we must fight, let us in our dreams
Me & You, Pt. 1
We’re out patching hills in the dying season
Storming the house
We are breathing
It’s raining
We’re sleepy and restless, to our waste in the water
We may come to expect we may find each other
One of us underneath covers and tired
The sun or the rain buried in the isle
The lean veneer and boa pairing
Sink in the ground but weave lion's bearings
Me and you, let us lose ourselves
And drive in the dark until we get lost
You and I, with our shoes untied
Here in this mercy, the sound of our sirens
Ah, Oh
What difference is it darling?
What difference does it make?
Every other day we’re happy,
Every other daring day
And the demons deep beneath us,
Though it depends ‘cause we’re high
I do it for you
I do it, don’t I?
Ah, oh and through go through
What makes me row trough the world?
Tonight the wind is blushing
Tonight you feel the pull
The blood flow from some vessel
Fill it full the whole night falls
Ah, oh and through go through
She makes me row through the world
Storyteller
She intended to become a stranger
And tuck in trunks and never remember
She put on a crazy apron, make something to eat
Having no ideas, god knows what it will be
Then was tired and turned in the trade
Her back blistered cooking and was not delayed
To become a storyteller as she lived her age
And spoke to the children, who were as open companions
I need you to lift this up
Look at Yourself
Oh, look you, across yourself
This body looks so solemn
What again was it you thought that made you different from them?
Was it the ghost you placed?
A face you made to sweep you away and leave a cloud of dust?
I get lost in the dark gray streets, dying lonely and loathing
While door to door the horror swoons like mountains under moons
Like swans will look away from you, like rivers from the ocean
But a shield was kept around the stake I held in this god awful place
And so I grew, and so did you until we knew we were all through
But this moon I kept the way you do your eyes until you close them
And then they are full and you see through all the times they were open
And more and more my story moves like rivers from the ocean
Like swans will look away from you, to what is where will hold them
The Night in Gales
The nightingales
We get all low and raccoon down by snowy wall
And cuddle up and wade in, blessed
And that’s not all that’s bad, I guess
We elder trees identified with cold white times
So moved aside to let the sun gleam it so long,
To have it’s fun with us and go
Someone does, and doves move
And from the shade, a shadow soon
Will come up front by way of trouble
Through all the din o’ muddy gravel
Dark garden’s grief will just surround us
While we are walking steady and sleeping fastest
Me and You, Pt. 2
We’re out in our fortune so wide and so deep
And during the ride you want to die in your sleep
And you are worried, and your eyes are buried,
And sleep will get sweeter the more you get angry
We’re out with our wings spread in snowy covers
That came down and gave our eyes to another
New insight on how no matter the shape of the world,
It gets blessed with a great white cape
And also how we, so silly and rough,
Get rained on, and suntanned, and pushed in the muck
And put up, and kicked out, and young and old,
And somehow convinced that we never know
So me and you can lose ourselves
And drive all night ‘till we get to the water
You and I, with our hearts untied,
Hear in this mercy the sound of each other
Responsibility
I have been a blouse blew open
And I have shown how I’m a shell
Of the one that I am living
Of the one I live around
I have been a rusty nail
Waiting in soft-looking dunes
And you have wandered up and met me
To bloody feet, sun basking around
I have been a tree’s wide branches
As you look up along the way
And it seems to me believing
As I am see-through and sinking
And even more, it seems a reason
By the doorways and the stairs
And the vases in the breezes
To let the fire grow out like hair
And the moon in our eyes, shaking
As we dance way up our sleeves
Feel skin smooth and bleakly
Toss the world around all trickly
I take no responsibility
To be a part of the world as shown
But I take full responsibility
To burn with the sun
Oh Well
I can go on
Without the rain oh and it falls deep
Painted a fortune wheel with alone, foreign
Making a moral feeling, we all spoke together
More than once and said
Oh well
We said so, so many feelings melt,
And we said as many
Thoughts, so many we are confused
But making a moral feeling, we all spoke together
More than once and said
Oh well
