We’ll Die
Days of Hiding
I don't want to see you
I don't wanna’ look
I don't even notice my eyes close
I don't even notice my sin
Yeah but I don’t want to see you
I'm afraid you'll reproach me
I'm afraid of the dark
I'm afraid of our whoring
And day by day
I hide my heart,
As day by day
The world falls apart
Come on New World
Hold on there, old world
At my open door
You human silhouette
On the dawn
Keep on looking hard
Your eyes will adjust
And grow large
Don't be shy or scared
Step further in the dark there
Now that you can see
Need I show you anything?
No
Leave Me Alone
If what you think of things is what they are,
One thing is so many things
You'll never know them all
All you who criticize and disgrace my moments
Listen to the wind
Watch the sun as it rises
Feel the night fall
Know the morning
Un-deny it all
See it for how it are
I am in the shadows
Leave me there alone
You Will Find Me
I can feel your breath on my neck, my love
I can feel my death at the end of my life
And I know if I stay in this night
I know if I stay here in this night
I know if I stay in and hide
Both of you will find me
Caves
Our hearts in caves like hands in gloves
Nothing will touch or be touched
Like hands on drums or eyes in dark
Our heart’s beating caves and moments
Yet still there’s stars or holes in cloth
Our hearts are hidden by love lost
Our souls in caves like air in lungs
They come and go, knowing it all
We walk our streets and the world breathes our mystery
Empty then full, the moon in sky
No nails could hold the whipping wind
So our souls don’t join in our sins
Holy Dawns of Spring
Oh, holy dawns of springtime
Oh, bright mornings
My cave only ever opens where it meets with thee
How I want to open my eyes
When you start shining
If you can warm a heart like this one
I will make dew with my tears on the grass
Days
Our days are like leaves in fall
Our days are like leaves in fall
And soon your soul, like branches or bones,
Will not be hidden by the moments of your life
Your days, I say love them as they go
You won’t have many more than you’re grateful for
Your days
(Fleeting) Moments
Now here are these hopes
There’s no moment but this one
Now here are these goals
There’s no moment but this one
Now here are all my dreams
There’s no moment but this one
The future’s just a scheme
There is no other moment
So here is this longing
There are those dark hills
Where the sun sets the scene
Now here are our yellow windows
We spend a moment in them
Now here is this longing
Like the kids with laptops
Remembering where they are
Whilst plugging in firewire
Or searching for wi-fi
Here is this longing
Whether it's right or it's wrong
Whether it's nice or not
There is no moment but this one
And so we’re still wild
(Flickering) Candles
Come look along the road
Out your frost-covered car window
Where the lights with the fog
And the blowing snow or rain drops
Into the bright black
Are blinking and jumping out
They have an amber glow,
And hop and spark like fireflies
It takes that much solace and patience
For you to know my songs
To longingly long alone
But it gives so much warmth to the world
In welcoming all the cold in the world
To blow out that little light of ours
So it has nowhere to hide no more
(You Belong to the) Blood
It's a bad world
There’s a powerful force of evil
There's a bloodbath
We are in denial
We lay down in the blood
And how we try to relax
In the places of ghosts,
We superimpose, we lean back
And with such dim headlights
Just fly into the black
It's a cold world
It's a long, long winter
There's a short, dark day
Until the night takes back over
But just go on
Friends will scream in your cave
Just go on with your days
You belong to the blood
And your heart knows the way
The Old Graveyard
Will you show me the way of true lovers
Through my mind, and over my lungs
And carry my heart through these shadows
In the pregnant night, to our baby dawn?
I'll shut my eyes and then open them wide
And cradle the light with my chest and arms
So that will take care as its’ father and mother
All the live long holy day
And so we'll make the day
We'll make it that way
Will you carry this torch, grandmother
Through the trees and over the water
And show the way to the shadows
Back to your house and how bravery goes?
Meanwhile I'll drive this steamroller
In the pitch black dark all over the graves
Of every lord and every king
And every master-maker of every man made thing
All the princes and all the priests
All the soldiers who made history
And when the sun comes up on those crumbling stones
Will you share an apple with me in the new meadow?
We’ll Die
The worldly hopes you set your heart on
All will turn to ash below the fire you start
Like snow or ice in a new day’s sunrise
They’ll shine in the world for a matter of moments and then
Melt back in the woods and in the hay
In the hay, what will you take into that tomb?
On your dying day, what will you shine upon your doom?
When I was young and taken care of,
When I was warm and fed up,
It was fun to get cold and fast
When I was tough, my skin was smooth
But now that it’s rough, I put the next foot in front
I slowly carve out at our days like water
(In the waves)
I’ll bring my fright to the estuary
From the highest place into the darkest cave
I’ll go with just my eyes to see it
Come on New World
